Wave! Don’t shoot!

Yesterday was a freaky day, in more ways than one. Let me just share with you the first incident.

I got a hankering for McD’s fries and vanilla shake (I’ve been craving this flavor combo lately). When I left the drive-thru window, I pulled into a parking space to put the straw in my drink and season my fries. On my sideview mirror, I saw two young men with automatic rifles hiding behind a utility box and their guns were pointing at me!!!

Before I could wet my pants, I saw four police cars pull up to the bank across the street from McD’s and then noticed the police uniforms on the young men with rifles. Something must’ve been going on in the bank, a robbery or something. *GULP* My innocent shake, fries, and I were in the middle of the crossfire!!!

Needless to say, I pulled out of there like a bat out of hell… not forgetting to wave to the nice policemen to let them know there was a civilian in the car between their weapons and the bad guys.

Unfortunately, no, I was not able to take a picture to blog. My fellow bloggers, I am truly ashamed.

So far this week:

  • The house has been clean and quiet. Don’s away on business. James and I cleaned the house and car and have been able to maintain it all week. I’ve decided that husbands, not children, make a bigger mess at home =)
  • Oral surgery hasn’t kept James from gabbing on the phone. He recovered quickly and was already munching on fried chicken within 48 hours.
  • James and I have been on a Filipino diet since Don left. We’ve had nothing but Filipino food all week and it’s been heaven!
  • A friend sent me enough Filipino movies on DVD to last a week. It’s been years since I watched a Tagalog movie. Biglang lumabas ang Tagalog ko. (Literally: Suddenly came out is Tagalog my. Translated: My Tagalog suddenly came out.)  Thanks a lot, Jay! =)
  • James got a job!!! He starts in a couple of days.
  • I’ve been camping out in my craft room, scrapbooking like a maniac. More on that later.
  • The biggest thing this week is meeting James’ new girlfriend. I have sooo much to say on this subject but I’m not ready to put my mixed feelings in black and white just yet. Let’s just say, I’m really proud that we have a good kid in contrast to most kids his age, but every time I see a hickey on his neck, I daydream of socking the girl in the mouth for putting it there. Mother’s instincts, I guess. More on that later, too.

Minor surgery

oral surgery

He survived oral surgery! All 4 impacted wisdom teeth were extracted today. At the time of this writing, he’s got an icepack pressed between his cheek and shoulder to keep both hands free for the X-box controller. I’d say he’s doing just fine. And the bonus: he ain’t doing much talking today =)

I was teasing him on the drive home from the dentist. Told him to call his girlfriend to say, “I wub wooh!”

She’ll say, “What did you say?”

Again, he should say, “I wub wooh! I wub wooh a wot!”

*LOL* It was funny watching him laugh w/ a face numb from novacaine.

Young “love”

James has a new girlfriend. They met at LA/ST (Leadership Academy/Sail Training). Since LA/ST, he’s been talking to her online ALL DAY and then on the cell phone ALL NIGHT… and then online again the next day, and then on the phone that night. You get the picture.

We were all young once. I let it go for a few days. But sucky mom that I am, I finally took his butt off the computer chair today to the convenience store down the street to get a J-O-B. He has a second interview next week; it looks promising. And I’m hoping he’ll wait for his first paycheck before asking me for date money to take his girl out. He’s been through this more than once. You’d think he’d learn by now that girls cost more money than the puney allowance he gets from mom and dad =)

*sigh* Raising teens is mentally draining! Do I really, really want to do this all over again? Do I really want more kids? I read an article today about a couple who traveled the world in one year. Wouldn’t I rather spend my 50’s traveling than raising more teens???

Withdrawal

We ran out of regular coffee and I was too lazy to go to the store. So I drank decaff for 2 days. The piercing caffeine-withdrawal headache finally got me out of the house today to go grocery shopping.

I know, I’m such a homebody! I’m getting sad that I have to leave the house again on a daily basis when school starts in a couple of weeks.
