Good Citizenship Award

Today James was nominated for the Union League’s Good Citizenship Award. What is it? I’m just finding out myself. Quoted from the website:

The Work of Youth Work
The Good Citizenship Award

Each year, with the help of 53 selected youth agencies, 290 young men and women are named to receive the League’s Good Citizenship Award. The youth are chosen without regard to race, color, creed, gender or political background but must have demonstrated marked evidence of good citizenship.

The annual Youth Work Day in May features a morning of presentations and workshops under the direction of the Freedoms Foundation. The afternoon includes special programs at The National Constitution Center. The highlight of the day is the Award Banquet which is attended by many Union League members and special guests.

The Good Citizenship Award has been presented to nearly 13,000 young people. Many have become leaders in their chosen business or profession and some have become Union League members who help perpetuate this unique outreach program.

Whatever it is, it’s a big deal to him! He has enlisted my help in writing his lifetime curriculum vitae. What in the world does an ordinary high school kid write on a CV?!?!

Don’s new baby

our new camping trailer

Please give a warm welcome to the newest member of our family :) If you’re really interested (aka Don’s family) click here or on the above picture to view all the pics on eBay. When you get on eBay, scroll down a little bit on the page.

I’m excited… not so much coz we have a new trailer, but that I don’t have to sleep in the old trailer anymore! This trailer has an AC, heater, bathroom, kitchen and dining room. It has all I need to scrapbook in the trailer all day while the boys do the nature thing outside. In other words, we can go on vacation as a family but I never have to leave the trailer at all.

Thaaaat’s right…. that’s what you call a compromise between an outdoorsman and an indoorsgirl! *grin*

Filipinos ARE everywhere

20070123.jpgIn the wee hours of the morning when I suffer from insomnia, I turn on the Globe Trekker series on PBS. Last night’s destination was the Arab Gulf States - Kuwait, UAE, Oman.

I noticed in this Middle East show and nearly all other shows in the series, there are Filipinos in all of them!

Filipinos ARE everywhere!

I wonder why that is?!?!

What did we do before cell phones?

On his first day of his new job, Don had to jumpstart his car before his 1-hour commute on icy road conditions. It worries me that he doesn’t have a cell phone right now. He turned in his phone and blackberry to his previous employer and we’re waiting to find out if his new job will provide a cell phone or if we have to add him to our family plan. Meanwhile, I made him promise to call me from work and before leaving work tonight.

My goodness… how did we manage before cell phones?!?! What did we do? Wait anxiously for his car to pull up on the driveway or the police to ring the door bell?

Last day on the job

Don's boss

Don's boss

Don's sidekick

Today is Don’s last day in civil service. I attended his office luncheon where they bid him farewell. His bosses had very nice things to say about him. I think the lasting impression he made on them is his way of always thinking out of the box. Although this kind of mentality in government employment fits like a square peg in a round hole, they appreciate its value and is the reason he was nominated Civilian (Employee) of the Year.

Next week, he’s going back to consulting for corporate America. I’m actually looking forward to it. Can’t wait to see him in suits and ties and tag along on business trips again. However, he will be working from home 2 days a week. I’m a little anxious about that so we’ll have to agree on the boundaries between work and home life.
