The price of fatness
Only in America does it cost more to loose weight than get fat! Don and I are low-carbing/south-beaching/whatever you wanna call it diet/lifestyle change/etc. Everything low-fat and low-carb in the supermarket is twice as much as processed, starchy, “normal” food. i.e.:
1 lb of spaghetti to feed an entire family - $0.50 cents
1 lb of fresh vegetables per person - $3.00
1 crunchy, trans-fat saturated bag of Doritos - $1.99
1 tiny can of high-protein, monounsaturated nuts - $5.00… dreams of waking up in Angelina Joli’s body - PRICELESS $$$
BTW, the food pyramid we all knew as a kid has been remodeled! The USDA released the new pyramid symbol and food guide. Highly recommend parents to check it out.

We recently went on a 4-day respite in Tampa. This is the city view from our hotel balcony in the sky. Don went for a tech conference. I was hesitant about tagging along because Florida is not exactly on my list of ideal vacations BUT staying in a luxury hotel (even in been-there-done-that Florida) tops the chart for me! It’s so nice to “come home” to a tidy room with fresh sheets and towels without me ever lifting a finger. Nice to have gourmet food served (on my right) and dirty dishes cleared (on my left) by people other than me. Nice to pretend that the marble splendor of the lobby was my very own living room, decorated and polished by someone other than me.
I’ve seen lots of dramatic sunsets, swam in nice pools, taken a lift down a white capped mountain, dined at 4 star restaurants, and been pampered in luxurious spas. But the best vacation of all is when I don’t have to think of what’s for dinner, I don’t have to pick up other people’s clutter, and I don’t have to get up early for anything. (I’ll tell you what else was nice. There were no bugs on the 24th floor! None at all!!!)
Mother’s Day was postponed in our family. My husband promised to make it up to me after his final exams. I don’t want any gifts, breakfast in bed, or a nice brunch at the Hilton. I just want to be waited on for a whole weekend. I want all my everyday chores done while I sit on the couch and watch it happen. Yes, that would be my ideal Mother’s Day, Birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s, Anniversary gift. Flowers and gift certificates are too easy :)
