Special Blog Request

I received a special blog request. James would like to make a shout out to all his peeps (especially those with a sweet tooth). His marching band is raising money for food on long days of competitions, overnight trips, and other supplies. I hate these fund raisers! I think this bumper sticker sums it up:

“It will be a great day when schools get all the money they need, and the government has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber.”

Should you be inclined to assist a worthy cause, the items for sale are available for your perusal at: http://www.simply-funds.com/products_sweet.html They have gigantic 3 lb. tubs of cookie dough ready to scoop and bake, a dozen cheesecake varieties, bite-sized brownies, fruit & nut pies, cinnamon rolls, and even funnel cakes! Prices are not posted online but feel free to email me w/ your inquiry.

Afterschool Life

Cadet Rhodes, ROTC

He hates having his picture taken nowadays, especially when he’s caught off guard as he’s coming out of the bathroom :) But that’s what parents are for… to annoy and fuss over our kids, right? He’s so proud of this uniform! You should’ve seen how he posed for me before getting in the car when I picked him up from school today. (I should’ve had my camera then!) Drills barely began and he’s already asking about going away to leadership school next summer.

Marching Band Competition

It’s not the greatest picture but the alternative is worse. (Someone tell my husband not to take pics against the light :) I wish you could see his competitions! They’re so awesome! I’ve been wanting to rent Drum Line all week.
So James has all these afterschool activities pretty much every night of the week, but the school does not provide afterschool late buses. I guess they expect the parents to leave work early every day to pick up the kids, or there are a lot of kids deprived of afterschool activities because their parents are still at work at 4:00 in the afternoon. What’s up with that? My high school had a late, later, and latest bus after school! I’m guessing its one of those things that was sacrificed in the budget cuts. My question is this… if property taxes are going up, and school budgets are going down, where’s all the money going???
