Souvenir From Florida
Of all the things I could’ve brought home from our trip to Florida, I came back with a bunion! Yup, a bunion… a hallux valgus, creepy-looking, painful swelling of my metatarsophalangeal joint. It sucks to be old, doesn’t it? *hihi* :-)
No commentsIf you want to make marriage more stable, make divorce illegal
Dubya’s amendment against gay marriage is in part doing ” what is legally necessary to defend the sanctity of marriage.” I am in opposition to gay marriage and gay unions in general. However, if we are to argue on the basis of protecting the “sanctity” of marriage – the sacred union between one man and one woman as designed by God - should we limit our attention to homosexual partnerships alone?
Divorce between heterosexual couples also violates the sacredness of marriage. Perhaps divorce has grown to be a norm in our culture that we’ve abandoned the fight to keep marriages from breaking up.
Consider what Andy Rooney had to comment. I’d vote for such a legislature protecting heterosexual marriage too.
Want To Marry? Take A Test
Most Americans disapprove of gay marriage, but if Congress gets into the marriage business, it better look into all marriages — not just gay ones, because marriage is in big trouble…If you want to make marriage more stable, make divorce illegal. If people knew they couldn’t get out of it, they’d be more careful getting into it…
If prohibiting divorce is impractical, which I agree it probably is, at least make it harder for two people to get married in the first place. No one can get a driver’s license or fly an airplane without taking a test. A man and a woman would have to take a test to prove that they knew how before they were given a license to marry. Some people should never be given a license.
I wish I could do my research paper on this subject. Unfortunately, I’m assigned some of the most mind-numbing topics like the ethical value of doublespeak, arguing the absolutist versus relativist philosophies. *zzzzzz*
No commentsDisney World Orlando
Why does an 8-hour work day drag so long yet a 7-day vacation end so quickly? We’ve just returned from our “Magical Gathering” in Disney World Orlando. I can still hear “It’s a small world after all” in my head. Disney is the kind of vacation you need another vacation from :) It seemed like we spent most days either standing in line or beating the line in sticky-icky humidity. We hit the parks early in the morning, went home for a relaxing swim in the afternoon, and hit the parks again at night. We found that to be the best way to do Disney.
For me, the real magic was getting away from the everyday with my siblings and the kids. Sharing a house for a week was almost as much fun as living at home when we were kids, except now we are the grown ups.
The kids truly enjoyed it the most. James got over his fear of roller coasters; he couldn’t wait to ride Space Mountain over and over again. Princess Jezzamine is in her prime age for Disney. Ethan may be too young to remember this trip when he gets older but he can do it again later like Auntie.
I will post some pictures in the next few days. Meanwhile, here’s a sneak peak of us in the Magic Kingdom and the cruise wedding we attended in Port Canaveral.
Memorable Moments of our Magical Gathering at the Magic Kingdom:
- James satisfied his need for speed as a test dummy on the Test Track ride.
- Lani got nauseous on Mission Space. Note to self: Do not ride immediately after an egg McMuffin breakfast!
- Don beating the lines with Fast Pass tickets.
- Jezz anticipating a personal autograph from Buzz Lightyear but got a machine-stamped signature instead.
- Ethan having a diaper accident in the pool.My sisters unearthing the world’s most comfortable bra at the outlet stores.
- Losing my cell phone during the electric parade. It later turned up in lost and found.
- All you can eat lobster buffet… yummm!!!
- Funnel cakes!
- Swimming in our private pool…
- Swimming in our private pool…
- Swimming in our private pool!!!
Sometimes the Bible just cracks me up!!! Here’s Ecclesiastes 7:9 in The Message version:
Don’t be quick to fly off the handle.
Anger boomerangs. You can spot a fool by THE LUMPS ON HIS HEAD
Isn’t that hysterical??? I’ve actually known fools with many lumps on their head :)
No commentsGood News & Bad News
The bad news: NJIT, Don’s engineering school, will discontinue offering undergrad courses in our local community college. Starting next semester, Don will have to drive an hour north to NJIT’s main campus.
The good news: A liberal arts university is taking the place of NJIT, offering BA programs in English and Education at the community college campus. That is great news for Lani!
