Chef James
I had James start dinner last night because I had to go somewhere after work. (It’s so nice having an older child!) I called him w/ instructions to preheat the oven and set the timer. I called him again to put the lasagna in the preheated oven. I called him again to make sure the timer was set. I called him again one last time when cooking time was up. As he took the hot tray out of the oven, he felt the heat through the oven mitt (time to get a new mitt) and instinctively grabbed the other end of the tray with his bare hand. OUCH!!! It wasn’t a deep burn but it got most of his palm and he walked around w/ an ice pack the rest of the night. He was being facetious when he replayed the story. Basically, he didn’t want to be hollered at for dropping dinner. I reminded him that safety comes first. The worse that could’ve happened was a last minute trip to McDonald’s :)
No commentsAnyway…
don’t the weeks go by soooo fast?!?! I was just in class Monday night. Now the weekend is fast approaching and I haven’t started my homework yet.
I need your input on something… is it just me or do you also forget what you did just yesterday? I wonder if its time to take Gingko. I wasn’t this forgetful in my single days. Was it because I had only myself to think about then? Does it come with age (as in physical deterioration of brain cells) or life stage (as in additional responsibilities of family)? On Monday mornings at work, when I’m asked what I did the past weekend, I honestly cannot remember what I did as far as tasks and responsibilities. But I never forget when I had company at a social or family gathering :)
No commentsAfter the third lesson, I felt my Spanish coming back to me otra vez. It will be a while before I can fluently hablar espanol but at least I’m able to follow the story line and conversations on the distance learning videos. (Who ever thought of designing a college course around a Spanish soap opera?) I should get myself a Spanish bible or find a Spanish church service to really immerse myself in the language. I bet I’d learn faster through songs and verses.
Last Sunday, I was really encouraged by a missionary couple our church is sending to Mexico. I think maybe - just a maybe for now - God is calling me to teach English as a second language. There are missionary organizations in need of short term teachers. Initially I thought I’d take a short cut by teaching English in the Philippines since I already know the national language. But English is already taught very early school. In fact, most educated Filipinos speak and write English better than American public school kids. The younger kids can probably correct my grammar and beat me in a spelling bee :)
Bueno, tengo que ayudar a mi amiga a eligió sus cuadros de la boda. (Well, I have to go and help my friend pick out wedding pictures.) Adios!
No commentsOhhhh, I’m gonna die in my Spanish class! :) I skipped Spanish 101 because I had the pre-requisite of high school Spanish. Of course, that was a decade ago! Today I felt like a fish out of water on my first day of college-level Spanish. It’s like piano lessons… despite all the years I spent on private piano lessons, all I can play for you today are chords in the key of C.
Oh well, it’s time to watch American Idol :)
No commentsTomorrow, “hell begins”, as my husband put it. IOW, another hectic semester is on it’s way. *sigh* I’m going to throw MYSELF a gigantimum graduation party when Don finally graduates! And I’m going to write his toast where he will thank me for being the woman behind the successful man. *hehe* :)
BTW, Jessica (James’ biological mom) is in need of prayer. She went to the ER before the weekend for what she thought was apendicitis. However, I guess tests determined the problem is in her ovaries. We don’t really understand what’s going on so just please say a prayer for her.
